Polyester, known commercially as Mylar®, is an optically clear thermoplastic used often as a
laminating substrate for flexible packaging structures. Polyester is easily machined, strong, resistant
to both high and low temperatures, and printable. Polyester also offers an excellent barrier to gas and water
vapor, is puncture resistant, and highly flexible. Common applications include lidding and wrapping
for the food industry, printing, point-of-purchase displays, electronics, packaging, and electrical insulation.
