Polyester, known commercially as Mylar®, is an optically clear thermoplastic used often as a
laminating substrate for flexible packaging structures. Mylar® is easily machined, strong, resistant
to both high and low temperatures, and printable. Mylar® also offers an excellent barrier to gas and water
vapor, is puncture resistant, and highly flexible. Common applications include lidding and wrapping
for the food industry, screen printing, point-of-purchase displays, book binding, and electrical insulation.
