| Rigid/Flexible PVC |
|
|
PVC, or polyvinyl chloride (vinyl), is the second largest volume plastic produced in the world.
Resins of PVC are typically rigid, but with the addition of plasticizers a flexible plastic can
be made for use in applications ranging from flooring to medical products to food wrap. PVC's
major benefit is its compatibility with many different kinds of additives, making it a highly
versatile polymer. With the addition of chemical modifiers, vinyl compound can be used indoors
or outside, be clear or opaque, and matched to virtually any color. PVC is also well noted for
its corrosion resistance and inherent flame retardant properties, making PVC an excellent choice
for applications such as corrosive material tank linings, and electrical conduit and wiring that
require high resistance to heat. Other uses for this versatile product include toys, automotive
parts and accessories, and graphics media.
